With repeated medical treatments we may destroy some of the selection work of our predecessors

The keys to natural resistance

To ensure that the breeding pigeons transmit a healthy and varied microbiota to their offspring, it is more than useful to prepare them for it with this perspective.

The first key is that so-called preventive treatments against cocciciodosis, trichomones, for the respiratory tract, and salmonella should be avoided when the pigeons show no symptoms.

These unnecessary treatments are counterproductive for the desired purpose. see the blog THE POWER OF NATURAL HEALTH, THE RESISTANCE OF RACING PIGEONS.

When in doubt about the health of your breeding pigeons, a good (microscopic) analysis can help you to prevent problems.

Make notes
But also noting what you observe in your breeding pigeons can teach you over time what you want to breed out of or in your population.

Treatments
I treat my breeding pigeons against lice and worms and I prevent other diseases with good hygiene, garlic, herbs and Medi-weed.

With the latter, I started this year with a young pigeon with the desired result. Every day for two weeks the young pigeon got three drops of Medi-weed, this was dropped on a piece of bread kneaded into a small ball and pushed into the mouth of the young pigeon.

Should an adult breeding pigeon fail in health, it will still be on the sick bow for a number of weeks before the sword of Damocles falls for the specific breeding pigeon.

During the stay in the infirmary I use the above means to get the breeding pigeon on top.

This pigeon will therefore have to skip a breeding round.
