At the beginning of 2026, I received a message from Aad Benschop. He asked whether I might be interested in a few 1st National Barcelona Wim Muller pigeons for DuijvesteinHattem. No long explanation, no hidden agenda. Just a sincere question, born out of involvement and trust.
Those who know DuijvesteinHattem know how carefully everything is done here. We focus on pigeons from the national top: top 10 National, with a clear preference for performances from above the rivers, from distances over 1,200 kilometers, and specifically in the eastern part of the Netherlands. In that case, even a young pigeon from the national top 20 is considered acceptable. Aad knew this vision. He understood exactly what fits here – and he generously entrusted us with these pigeons.
The background makes his gesture even more meaningful. Aad had received this bloodline from the 1st National Barcelona 2019 pigeons from two fanciers he had helped in the past with young birds. They did not want their colony to be dispersed through a sale and entrusted Aad with their entire team: racers and breeders alike. Together with another well-known pigeon friend, the pigeons were carefully selected. Some racers were settled in with a third fancier, and four of the Wim Muller pigeons were lent to DuijvesteinHattem.
This is not an everyday decision.
This is trust.
Thinking of others.
Thinking of the bigger picture… and breeding Barcelona pigeons together.
Lending pigeons without any self-interest, in the confidence that they will be well cared for and respected – that truly touches something.
Every single time.
It gives goosebumps, because it shows how exceptional people in this sport can be.

Aad Benschop, thank you. For your openness. For your trust. And above all, for the example you set. These are the actions that endure – and that speak louder than a thousand words.
